New Year Partner Update
From Pastor Layne
God bless you and we hope this finds you standing firm. It is hard to fathom we are at 2010 and upon
writing this; I began thinking back to 1968, about the time when I came to the
Lord. The futuristic blockbuster 2001: A
Space Odyssey was out and I remember the excitement and anticipation that
captivated us as we twitched and paced in line for over five hours. I do not think any of us were disappointed
with the movie but reflecting back I marvel how limited our imaginations must
have been and the tunnel vision we had at that time. Perfect example of life imitating art, and
or, art imitating life. The job of good
science fiction writers and movie special effects people are to keep us on
‘pins and needles’ waiting for more and wanting for the sequel.
Having said that, in real life, we have a compilation of letters and facts
that tell us of the past and promises of the future, it’s called the
Bible. It is the greatest all time
seller. Business Week reports the Bible
as having sold 2.5 – 6 Billion (B) copies as of July 2005. The most printed and shipped book is:
Quotations from Chairman Mao – The Little Red Book with over 6.5 Billion
copies. That is only since 1964. Fantasy novels like Harry Potter may be
outselling both of these if you take into consideration the period of time they
have been available.
I often wonder why people reach for fantasy when they can have truth. I
have been sharing my faith for many years and have often asked that question.
It seems that most people seek what feels good rather that what is best for
them. Perhaps that is why most would
choose a bowl of ice cream over a bowl of broccoli.
If you have someone you are sharing with and need a good book to give them
consider “Evidence that Demands a Verdict,” or, “More Than a Carpenter” by Josh
McDowell. These are easy reads yet hard
hitting and fact based.
A friend asked me if I have a New Years resolution. Perhaps it will be to make my life count and
to try to live each day, as if it is the last I have to serve. How about you?
God bless you!
Pastor Layne,
STAFF SPEAKS
Hello, my name is
Joyann, I have been volunteering with ACTS for 12 years. Three years ago the Lord called me to serve
at ACTS Tracts 3 days a week. When the
Lord called me, I surrendered 80% of my job clientele as a Massage
Technician. The Lord matched that lost
income by giving my Husband a raise for the exact amount of the surrender,
making me aware of how He provides. I
knew I had made the right choice and was in the right place. Serving at
ACTS TRACTS has taken me into a journey that I have never been
before, I wasn’t sure if I was truly
cabaple of doing a job that required a great responsibility (She is AWESOME). One day a week, I am the coordinator for the
volunteers that come to assemble the materials for shipping. ACTS had really taught me what serving is all
about. If I am not in the office,
filling orders etc., I am outdoors getting the property finely groomed. To me serving isn’t just doing one thing, it
is being willing to do anything the Lord gives me the energy to do. Pastor Layne and Kristy who are the founders
of ACTS have lead by example and do so much for others that I realized to be a
servant of the Lord you have to be willing to be available and have a heart to
serve anytime at the drop of a dime. I
love serving the Lord and am very happy to make a difference in the lives of
many people I won’t see until Heaven. Thank you for taking the time to use ACTS
TRACTS as your tools for witnessing.
Sincerely, Yours
in Christ,
PRAISE REPORTS
“RIGHT TO SHARE”
Taking the GOSPEL to the streets is a
commission and a commandment for believers.
Responding obediently to the Commission and hitting the streets, we
receive Grace and Power to fulfill the Lord’s commands. Hitting the streets always has had a personal
cost. Consider the price paid by
Stephen, who became the first martyr for
preaching the Gospel. And
remember Peter, James and John, who preached in the name of Jesus, even though threatened with imprisonment and death.
Today, however, American Christians face no
such cost for preaching the Gospel.
The streets and sidewalks of
The United States are an
